HC Deb 11 January 1994 vol 235 cc121-2W
Mr. Skinner

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when the scheme to widen the M1 between junctions 28 and 32 will commence; what is the estimated cost; and what is the projected length of time from beginning to end for work on the scheme.

Mr. Key

We are holding local public exhibitions in February of proposals for widening to dual four lanes within the existing land take between junctions 31 and 32. The work is estimated to cost £5 million.

The remaining proposals for the section of M1 between junctions 28 and 32 are at an earlier stage of development. Further progress will depend on the priority accorded to them following the current review of schemes, the completion of any statutory procedures and the availability of funds. The next stage would be public consultation about the options for widening. The estimated works cost for the whole section at the time of the 1990 report, "Trunk Roads, England into the 1990s", was approximately £200 million.
