To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will make it his policy to allocate funds to regional sports councils from the national lottery.

Under the National Lottery etc. Act 1993, the Sports Council is responsible for distributing that share of the net proceeds from the national lottery that will go to expenditure on or connected with sport. The Sports Council may not delegate this function to its regional offices, but may, of course, seek their advice on applications relating to their parts of the country.
