To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has considered paying the Automobile Association a fee for running the cones hotline.

In considering the future development of the cones hotline, we are currently looking at the option of having it run by a private sector agency.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport for what reasons the cones hotline number is an indirect line.

Mr. Key

Until recently the cones hotline has operated adequately on the Department's general inquiry number. However, it has now been changed to a direct line—0345 50 40 30.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the purpose of the cones hotline.
