HL Deb 28 February 1994 vol 552 cc65-6WA
Lord Hutchinson of Lullington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many bail hostels have been opened since February 1992, and whether they plan to open any additional bail hostels.

Earl Ferrers

Since February 1992, six new bail hostels have opened and one has re-opened. Current plans allow for two more bail hostels to open.

Lord Hutchinson of Lullington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many (a) probation hostels and (b) bail hostels there were before the recent hostel closures announcement; how many places there were in probation and bail hostels respectively; and what were Her Majesty's Government's targets for opening new hostels; and what differences the proposed hostel closures will make to each of the above figures.

Earl Ferrers

Prior to the closure announcement, there were 86 probation/bail and 30 bail hostels providing 2,057 and 678 places respectively. Current plans allow for two more hostels to be established, which, when taking into account the closures which were announced, mean a total of 107 hostels providing 2,680 places by April 1996.
