To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when the Howie report was published; and when he expects to make a statement.

The Howie committee's report was published on 5 March 1992 and the consultation period closed on 31 December 1992.
Following consideration of the report, I was pleased to announce, on 19 January, that standard grade will remain in S4. My right hon. Friend expects to make a further announcement in due course.
