§ Mrs. Angela KnightTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he is taking fully to integrate women into the RAF; and if he will make a statement.
382W
§ Mr. HanleyWomen in the Royal Air Force are eligible for nearly all branches and trades in the RAF and already compete on equal terms with men for appointments, training places and trades. In order to eliminate any possible artificial barrier to further integration, and to enhance career opportunities for women to reach the highest ranks, it has been decided, with the approval of Her Majesty the Queen, to discontinue use of the generic title "WRAF' with effect from 1 April 1994.
