HL Deb 23 February 1994 vol 552 c53WA
Lord De Freyne

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the statutory restrictions governing the overnight parking of trade vehicles in a rural residential district.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish)

There are no national statutory restrictions governing the overnight parking of trade vehicles but local traffic authorities have wide powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to make orders to restrict or prohibit parking (either throughout the day or at specific times) by specific class of vehicle, which may be defined by reference to the vehicle's height, weight, length or any other characteristic.
