HL Deb 23 February 1994 vol 552 cc52-3WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether and when they will announce their plans for the relocation of the Department of the Environment and possible redevelopment of No.2 Marsham Street.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (The Earl of Arran)

No.2 Marsham Street is a Crown freehold building jointly occupied by the Departments of the Environment and of Transport. On 6 February 1992, the then Secretary of State for the Environment announced that the building would be demolished. The present Secretary of State for the Environment announced on 26 November last that his Department would be relocating to Ashdown House, Victoria Street, SW1 and a redeveloped Eland House, Bressenden Place SW1, in 1997. On 9 February, the Secretary of State for Transport announced that his department would be relocating to Great Minster, Horseferry Road, SW1, probably in autumn 1995. Consultants are currently advising on the 2 Marsham Street site. An outline planning application on the future use of the site is expected to be submitted to the local planning authority shortly.
