HL Deb 23 February 1994 vol 552 c54WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many times in each of the past 10 years the Home Secretary used his discretion, whether under the Immigration Rules or outside them, so as to make possible the reunion in the United Kingdom of spouses, parents and children or other immediate relatives in cases of (a) asylum-seekers (b) other immigrants.

Earl Ferrers

Information on cases where discretion was exercised is not separately identified in the statistics. Information on the total number of persons accepted for settlement in the United Kingdom as spouses or dependants of British citizens or persons settled or settling here is given in Table 3 of Home Office Statistical Bulletin Issue 33/93Control of Immigration: Statistics—First and Second Quarters 1993, a copy of which is available in the Library.
