To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the numbers of(a) cases brought and (b) prosecutions leading to convictions under the Official Secrets Act 1989 from 1 March 1990 to 31 December 1993.

[holding answer 11 February 1994]: Information held centrally shows that there were two prosecutions in 1991, both of which resulted in convictions. There was also a further prosecution in 1992 where the defendant was committed for trial. Data for 1993 are not yet available.
