Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was(a) the output of motor cars and (b) the balance of trade in total in motor vehicles of (i) France, (ii) Italy, (iii) Germany and (iv) the United Kingdom in (1) 1978 and (2) 1993.

The information requested concerning the output of motor cars is available in "Motor Industry of Great Britain 1993: World Automotive Statistics" (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), a copy of which is available in the Library of the House. The balances of trade in motor vehicles are shown in the table and relates to 1992 since 1993 data are not currently available.
