This shows the age of cattle by date of confirmation of BSE for the months concerned. It should be noted that the four-year-old group will still include cattle with potential dates of birth before 18 July 1988 when the ruminant feed ban was introduced. Although the table shows a declining number of confirmed cases in the groups less than four years old, and to a degree the four to five-year-old group, it is not a table of age-specific incidence which sorts age groups by age at onset of the disease. Furthermore the 1993 data set is incomplete.

1 The disease was not notifiable until June 1988 so these figures cannot be further broken down as specific dates of confirmation are not available. It should be noted that the four year old group will still include cattle with potential dates of birth before 18 July 1988 when the ruminant feed ban was introduced. Although the table shows a declining number of confirmed cases in the groups less than four years old, and to a degree the four to five year old group, it is not a table of age specific incidence which sorts cases by age at onset of the disease.
