Lord Ferrers has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the Certified Normal Accommodation of local prisons.
The attached table shows the Certified Norma] Accommodation (CNA), population, and population as a percentage of CNA (that is, overcrowding) of each of the local prisons on 1 February 1994.

Many of these cases would previously have been recorded as withdrawn or unsubstantiated, according to the circumstances.
