HL Deb 14 February 1994 vol 552 c4WA
Lord Kilmarnock

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the Health Education Authority's role in implementing the Government's Health of the Nation strategy.

Baroness Cumberlege

TheHealth of the Nation White Paper, copies of which are available in the Library, made clear (Para 3.14) that the Health Education Authority (HEA) will continue to work closely with the media in delivering accurate health education messages, and with the National Health Service in developing the Health promotion and disease prevention roles of the health service. It also foreshadowed (Para 4.12) a review of the role of health authorities in health education, and the support they receive from the HEA. In the light of this, the HEA has agreed a revised strategy with my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Health. The independent review of the HEA, chaired by Mr. John Lee, has subsequently looked further at its relationship with health authorities. An announcement on the outcome of that review is due shortly.
