§ Ms Primarolo
To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will give the percentage of ethnic minority staff at the management executive and her Department in each year since 1990–91.

§ Mr. Sackville
The percentage¹ of ethnic minority staff in the Department, which includes the National Health Service Management Executive, on 1 April each year since 1990–91 is:

1990–91 9.8

1991–92 12.9

1992–93 14.9

1993–94 15.6

¹ Based on the response to the Department's ethnic origin survey.

Comparative data are not available for the NHS Management Executive, but at 7 February 1994 the percentage was 5.9.
