HL Deb 10 February 1994 vol 551 c129WA
Viscount Waverley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will confirm that, in relation to their policy on the security of Belize, they are ready to participate in any consultations that the Belize government may request; that they are ready to play a part in consultations leading to an appropriate response; and that they are ready in principle to play an appropriate part in any response by the international community to a future threat to the security of Belize, and whether they will clarify the nature and extent of that readiness.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

As the joint British and Belize government statement of 23 September 1993 made clear, we stand ready to participate in any consultations the Belize authorities may request on Belize's future security; and we are prepared to play our part in any consultations which would lead to an appropriate response should the security of Belize be threatened in the future.
