To ask the Secretary of State for Defence which management consultants have been appointed to examine performance pay; and if he will make a statement.

The MOD like other Government Departments, has introduced a system of performance related pay for its civilian staff based on overall annual staff report markings. This has been entirely achieved by the effective use of my Department's manpower and expertise, as well as through consultation with other Government Departments undergoing the same process. The use of external management consultants was unnecessary.
