TaylorAs announced in this House on 2 February, the Lord Chancellor has listened to the criticism of the Police and Magistrates' Courts Bill voiced in the second reading debate in the House of Lords on 18 January. He proposes to move an amendment when the Bill next comes before Parliament, the effect of which will be to remove the proposed power of the Lord Chancellor to require that any contract of service made between a magistrates court committee and a chief justices' clerk or justices' clerk must contain such provision as my be specified in the order.
