To ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans he has to continue the British Coal redundancy package for miners after April.

I have informed British Coal that the Government are prepared to provide funding for the current redundancy terms for industrial workers where redundancies are proposed before 30 April 1994, and for so long as the consultations with the unions on any such proposal continue.
