HC Deb 08 February 1994 vol 237 cc124-5W
Mr. Tom Clarke

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much debt relief was granted to Jordan over the last five years; and under what scheme this was granted.

Mr. Nelson

I have been asked to reply.

Over the past five years, debts due from Jordan have been rescheduled twice. A total of £190 million has been rescheduled including debt owing to both ECGD and ODA. The reschedulings were concluded as part of general agreements between Jordan and its Paris club creditors. Some of these debts were rescheduled over an extended period under Paris club terms available for lower-middle income countries. Interest is charged at market rates on ECGD-insured debts but no interest is charged on rescheduled ODA debts.
