To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proportion of British Rail board members pay was linked to performance in July 1992 and July 1993.

In the year to 31 March 1992 BR executive board members participated in a bonus scheme with a potential maximum of 25 per cent. of annual remuneration. Percentage payments made in 1992 were in the range of 10 per cent. to 11 per cent. of remuneration. In the next year the potential maximum was 40 per cent., and payments were 22.5 per cent.
