HC Deb 07 February 1994 vol 237 c100W
Dr. Twinn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will light more roads in order to help achieve his target of reducing road deaths and serious injuries by a third by the year 2000.

Mr. Key

In deciding which road safety measures to introduce we apply the general principle that resources should be used in a way which is most likely to be effective in reducing casualties. There may be cases where lighting should be installed, but there are also many other ways of improving roads to reduce deaths and serious injuries. Lighting will not always be the most effective solution.
