HL Deb 07 February 1994 vol 551 cc105-6WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have on the extent to which the Israeli military authorities have restored freedom of movement for Palestinians between the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, and between the Occupied Territories and Israel.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The Israelis continue to enforce the "closure" of the Occupied Territories announced in March 1993. In June 1993 the Israeli Government said that female residents and accompanied children under 16 could enter Israel without a permit, as could men over 50, provided they return to the Occupied Territories before 1900 hours each day. They have also announced year-long permits for specialist personnel, and in October 1993 they announced that all male West Bank residents over 40 could enter Jerusalem without a permit.
