HC Deb 07 February 1994 vol 237 c17W
Mr. Bradley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which EC countries have laws criminalising employers for employing workers who do not have permission to work under the immigration laws of the country; and for each country how long such legislation has been in existence.

Mr. Charles Wardle

From the information readily available we understand that most member states of the EC have penalties which involve fines and/or imprisonment for employers who employ foreign nationals who do not have the requisite permission to work. Information as to how long such legislation has been in existence is not available.
