HC Deb 07 February 1994 vol 237 c52W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment she has made of the applications of cannabis for the treatment of the side effects of chemotherapy.

Mr. Sackville

None. However, certain synthetic compounds of cannabis, cannabinoids, have been found to be of use against nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy. An independent report into the use ofnabilone, a semisynthetic cannabinoid developed for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced emesis, has concluded that it is no more effective than standard anti-emetic treatments and has a higher degree of toxicity.
