To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if he will make a statement on the progress of staff requirement (air) 1242;

(2) when he expects to announce the result of the contest for the low-level laser-guided bomb under staff requirement (air) 1242.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley (Mr. Foulkes) on 17 January 1994,Official Report, column 441. I hope to be able to announce the results of the competition by April 1994.
