HC Deb 03 February 1994 vol 236 c819W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what new proposals she has to increase organic farming production.

Mr. Jack

The Government's efforts to encourage British farmers to respond to demand for organic food include a substantial research and development programme and on 10 August 1993 my hon. Friend the Minister announced a proposed organic aid scheme, designed to increase the area under organic production in England threefold.

My right hon. Friend also met representatives of the organic farming movement recently. It was agreed that there should be further discussions with officials, and another ministerial meeting in the spring concentrating on the role of organic farming in relation to reform of the Community's common agricultural policy.
