HC Deb 03 February 1994 vol 236 cc849-50W
Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make it her policy that GPs will not charge fees to persons on benefits for evidence in support of claims.

Dr. Mawhinney

Under their terms of service—schedule 2 to the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Regulations 1992,—general practitioners are required to issue a defined list of certificates to their patients free of charge, including those needed to support claims for a number of social security benefits. The list of certificates is kept under review.
