HC Deb 02 February 1994 vol 236 c799W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will designate parts of Cardigan bay, the Bristol channel and St. George's channel as special areas of conservation under directive 92/43/EEC.

Mr. Atkins

The list of sites which member states shall designate as special areas of conservation must be agreed with the Commission by 1998 and the site designation process must be completed by 2004.

The Government's scientific advisers are preparing their recommendations for the United Kingdom's proposed special areas of conservation. It is therefore premature to comment on whether and when specific sites might be designated.
