HC Deb 01 February 1994 vol 236 cc609-10W
Mr. Jamieson

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what instructions were given to Customs and Excise officers regarding the inspection of the Nora Heeren;

(2) if the Customs and Excise conducted a full inspection of the cargo of the Nora Heeren.

Sir John Cope

[holding answer 31 January 1994]: Customs officers were asked to inspect the cargo on board ship, and to inspect the ship's papers relating to it.

A visual inspection of the cargo, stowed on deck, was carried out. Inspection of the ship's holds was also made so far as it was possible without offloading the cargo ashore.
