§ Mr. BlunkettTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what provision has been made in the NHS budget for 1994–95 for the implementation of the recommendations of the pay review bodies.
§ Dr. Mawhinney[holding answer 31 January 1994]: As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health said at the time of the Chancellor's autumn statement, the national health service has been given additional resources of some £1.6 billion for 1994–95. If pay rises are earned through increased efficiency, as the Government urged in their evidence to the review bodies, these resources will make possible an increase in activity of around 4 per cent.
