The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your Question about the policy on granting permission to criminology researchers interview prisoners.Requests to interview inmates in prison establishments in England and Wales are considered on the basis of the practicability and likely benefit of the research, the demands of the research project on Prison Service resources, the qualifications of the researcher, and the consent of the prisoner.
