HC Deb 01 February 1994 vol 236 c691W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will extend the recent arrangements to compensate former mineworkers who suffer from severe bronchitis and emphysema as a result of their employment to make similar provision for workers in the steel industry who suffer from these diseases as a result of the conditions of their employment.

Mr. Scott

We have no such plans. The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council concluded in its report "Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema", Cm 2091, that, on present evidence, it could not recommend prescription of the diseases in relation to metal production workers.
