HC Deb 20 December 1994 vol 251 c1139W
Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment she has made of the effect of the implementation of proposals in the recent Green Paper "Tackling Drugs Together", on the levels of alcoholism.

Mr. Bowis

"Tackling Drugs Together" sets out the Government's strategy for combating illegal drug use, not alcoholism.

Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Health to what use the funds made available to the Health Education Authority for its alcohol programme have been put; and what is to become of the various projects funded by this money following the Health Education Authority's announcement that it intends to discontinue the programme.

Mr. Bowis

The Health Education Authority has not discontinued its alcohol work. Its budget for 1994–95 includes £1,159,000 for this work. This has financed the Drinkwise campaign, workplace activities, dissemination of the sensible drinking message, support for health authorities' purchasing functions and other work.
