To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many national insurance numbers are currently on issue in the United Kingdom.

There are approximately 64.2 million national insurance numbers currently in issue in the United Kingdom. This is the total number of national insurance numbers issued to date, and, as such includes numbers issued to persons now deceased.
