To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many hospitals have closed since April 1991.

Eight. With the exception of one hospital, which provided GP maternity and obstetric services, these facilities provided services for elderly people and people with a mental handicap.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland for how many accident and emergency departments there are currently proposals for closure.

Mr. Moss

I am not aware of any current proposals from health and social service boards or trusts far the closure of accident and emergency departments.
