To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has been spent on telephone charges and how many telephone calls have been made by his Department for each of the last five years.

Departmental telephone charges within the Treasury for the past five years are:

  • 1989–90: £798,243
  • 1990–91: £740,185
  • 1991–92: £721,751
  • 1992–93: £628,599
  • 1993–94: £662,310

Details of the number of calls made per year are not held centrally.
