HC Deb 14 December 1994 vol 251 cc720-1W
Mr. Tyler

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the number of meetings held, the secretarial and advisory arrangements, the budgeted and actual expenditure and the subjects of the reports and submissions produced by the Salmon advisory committee in each of the last three years.

Mr. Jack

The Salmon advisory committee examines and reports on those matters relating to the conservation and development of salmon fisheries in Great Britain which are referred to it by fisheries Ministers. Since it was established in 1986, it has issued six reports, all of which have been published. Of these the following were produced within the last three years:

  • "Factors Affecting Emigrating Smolts and Returning Adults" - published 1993.
  • "Run Timing of Salmon" - published 1994.

The secretariat for the committee is provided by officials from the Department's salmon, whaling and inland fisheries division, which also supplies the secretary. An assistant secretary is provided by the Scottish Office. The committee reports direct to fisheries Ministers.
