HC Deb 14 December 1994 vol 251 c661W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate he has made of the population of hares in the United Kingdom in the period from 1979 to date.

Mr. Atkins

The Government-funded national hare survey, carried out during the winters of 1991–92 and 1992–93 estimated the British population to be somewhere between 680,000 and 954,000. There are no figures available for Northern Ireland.
