HL Deb 14 December 1994 vol 559 c128WA
Viscount Hanworth

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to promote combined heat and power schemes in the United Kingdom; and whether they accept that such schemes can contribute to energy efficiency.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Viscount Ullswater)

The Government have long recognised the important role combined heat and power (CHP) can play in improving energy efficiency in the United Kingdom. These work closely with industry to promote the wider use of CHP in all sectors of the United Kingdom economy and to identify and endeavour to resolve any unnecessary barriers to its wider uptake. As part of the United Kingdom Climate Change Programme, the Government set a challenging target of 5000 MW installed capacity by the year 2000.
