To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the number of vacant consultant orthopaedic posts; and if she will make a statement.

There were 31 vacant consultant posts in trauma and orthopaedics in England at 30 September 1993. As a snapshot of vacancies on a single date, they may not fairly reflect the average number of vacancies over the year as a whole.
