HC Deb 13 December 1994 vol 251 c635W
Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the effect of the abolition of the adult dependency increase paid with unemployment benefit on the number of claimants of income-based jobseeker's allowance in the first 182 days of a claim.

Mr. Roger Evans

It is estimated that, at any one time, 5,000 people would be entitled to income-based jobseeker's allowance as a result of there being no adult dependency increase in the contributory element.

Notes:

  1. (1) Assumes 2.4 million unemployed; 500,000 unemployment benefit cases.
  2. (2) Estimates rounded to the nearest 5,000.
  3. (3) Based on 1993 and 1994 unemployment benefit statistics and the policy simulation model using 1990–91–92 family expenditure survey data.
  4. (4) Assumes contributory entitlement lasts six months.
  5. (5) Estimates do not include tax or behavioural implications.
