HC Deb 12 December 1994 vol 251 c466W
Dr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the incidence of brain tumours in the United Kingdom; and what estimate she has made of the accuracy of the figures.

Mr. Sackville

In 1989, the latest available figures, there were 2,947 registrations of newly-diagnosed cases of malignant neoplasm of the brain—international classification of diseases in 191—in England. This figure is likely to be an underestimate because accurate diagnosis of many brain tumours is problematic.

Information relating to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are matters for my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and for Scotland and my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
