To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the latest research on BSE.

The Ministry has a wide-ranging BSE research programme, costing £5.4 million for 1994–95, based on the recommendations of the consultative committee on research into spongiform encephalopathies. The research is regularly reviewed by the Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee and all results of conducted research are published.

A new progress report on BSE in Great Britain will be made available shortly.
