HC Deb 06 December 1994 vol 251 c151W
Mr. Jamieson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the total cost to Devon and Cornwall police of providing escorts and protection for those transporting live animals for export from Millbay docks in Plymouth.

Mr. Maclean

I understand from the chief constable that police officers have been deployed at Millbay docks to prevent the possibility of a breach of the peace. Police officers are not being used to escort loads to the docks.

The operation began on 28 November, and continues whenever necessary. No estimate has been made of the total cost, but the force is handling the matter by redeployment of officers and extra costs to the police budget are not expected.
