§ Ms WalleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many inspections have been completed, region by region, since 1 April 1994, in respect of fishing vessels over 12 m; how many vessels have been issued with a valid certificate; and how many are currently outside the three month validation period.
§ Mr. NorrisThis is an operational matter for the Marine Safety Agency. I have asked the chief executive to write to the hon. Member.
Letter from R. M Bradley to Ms Joan Walley, dated 6 December 1994:
The Secretary of State for Transport has asked me to reply to your Question about the inspection and certification of fishing vessels. In view of the reference to certification I have assumed that the first part of the Question refers to surveys, rather than inspections, of fishing vessels of 12 metres and over. The attached table shows, by District, the number of vessels of 12 metres and over which completed survey and in respect of which a UK Fishing Vessel Certificate (UKFVC) was issued during the period 1 April to 30 October 1994.Turning to the final part of the Question, I am afraid I do not understand the reference to a "three month validation period". If you could clarify the request I would be happy to try to provide the information you seek.174W
