HC Deb 05 December 1994 vol 251 cc34-5W
Mr. Cohen

Top ask the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total cost of installing ticket barriers in London Underground stations; when the first one and when the last one of the old design was installed; and what is the total estimated cost of installing the new design of ticket barrier in all of London's stations.

Mr. Norris

The first ticket gates of the old design were commissioned in October 1987, the last in June 1992.

London Underground estimates that buying and installing these gates—excluding the associated costs of structural modifications to stations—cost around £18 million at 1993–94 prices.

No estimate has been made of the cost of installing the new design ticket gates in all London Underground stations.
