To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have been imprisoned twice for failure to pay poll tax.

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Derek Lewis to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 30 November 1994: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking how many persons have been imprisoned twice for failure to pay poll tax. Between 1990 and 31 October 1994 some 19 persons were received twice into Prison Service establishments in England and Wales for non-payment of poll tax.
