To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many households have applied to local authorities as homeless each year since 1979.

The latest complete information on the number of households who have applied to local authorities as homeless is published in table 2 of the statistical bulletin HSG/1994/3, "Operation of the Homeless Persons Legislation in Scotland 1982–83 to 1992–93: District Analyses". Information for the previous years was published in table 1 of the statistical bulletin HSG/1992/1, "Operation of the Homeless Persons Legislation in Scotland 1979–80 to 1990–91".
