HC Deb 26 April 1994 vol 242 c150W
22. Mr. David Martin

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the total amount of savings she estimates to have been made as a result of competitive tendering of services in the national health service; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

It is estimated that since the introduction of competitive tendering in 1983 the cumulative saving to the national health service has amounted to something in the order of £1 billion.
